The 5th Belt and Road Women’s Forum successfully convened in Sanya, Hainan from December 6-8. Co-hosted by the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, and the UN Resident Coordinator Office in China, and jointly organized by the People’s Government of Sanya City, the China Friendship Foundation for Peace and Development, and the Secretariat of the Belt and Road Women’s Forum. On the morning of the 8th, the Belt and Road Women's Forum and Youth Leadership Forum was successfully held in Sanya Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City. Fang Wei, Vice President of Global Marketing Headquarters of Wolong Electric Group Co., Ltd., attended the Belt and Road Women’s Forum and Youth Leadership Forum and delivered a speech.
Friends, ladies, and gentlemen, good morning!
I am delighted to participate in this year’s Belt and Road Women’s Forum and deliver a speech at the Youth Leadership Forum. I am here on behalf of Ms. Chen Yanni, Chairwoman of Wolong Electric Group Co., Ltd., to extend my best wishes for the success of this event.
Listening to the speeches of the guests, I gained a lot of insights. Frankly speaking, before this event, I hadn’t deeply contemplated how businesses like ours could actively integrate into the Belt and Road development strategy or how the youth could actively participate in its high-quality construction. However, after attending yesterday’s meeting, I have gained a deeper understanding of President Xi Jinping’s initiative to jointly build the Belt and Road. This initiative, advocating for cooperative and win-win spirits, is conducive to addressing global challenges and building a more peaceful and prosperous future. As the Belt and Road enters a new phase of high-quality development, it continues to provide new opportunities for the youth.
Wolong Electric Group, my employer, is an international enterprise specializing in electric motors and drive products. We have 39 manufacturing plants globally, including 14 overseas facilities in countries like Austria, the UK, Germany, Serbia, Poland, Italy, Mexico, and Vietnam. Electric motors, widely used in industry, agriculture, construction, and transportation, play a vital role in social production. Their energy consumption level is directly related to the development of energy-saving technologies and the overall societal energy consumption level. For instance, in China, electric motors account for about 60% of total social electricity consumption and 75% of industrial electricity use. If all these motors and systems were replaced with higher-efficiency ones, it’s estimated that power consumption could be reduced by 10%, representing significant social and energy value. As a leading company in the electric motor and drive industry, Wolong has been vigorously advancing the ‘green,’ ‘low-carbon,’ and ‘digital’ transformation and upgrade of our core products, from design, and manufacturing to application, and has achieved commendable results. We are eager to share Wolong’s experience in energy-saving, carbon reduction, and zero-carbon park construction, and strive to make greater contributions to the economic and social development of Belt and Road participating countries.
I also want to mention that Chairwoman Chen Ma’e, a remarkable female representative, and an entrepreneur born in the 1980s, has led Wolong Group to maintain double-digit growth in major economic indicators in recent years, rapidly expanding our business scope. Her keen market sense and overall management capability are evident, affirming that women are indeed an important force in modernization. I believe that ‘She Power’ will play a pivotal role in global sustainable development. Furthermore, Chairwoman Chen Yanni pays great attention to the development of young employees, encouraging innovation and independent decision-making. We are very willing to promote youth cooperation and leadership enhancement in Belt and Road countries, helping young people become actors and leaders in achieving sustainable development goals, contributing their youthful energy to the high-quality joint construction of the Belt and Road, and making greater contributions to the betterment of human life.
Once again, I wish this event a great success and a brighter future for all of us. Thank you!
The forum brought together over 400 participants. These included Li Xikui, Vice President of Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, Cheng Hong, Vice President of All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, Chen Xi, Mayor of the People’s Government of Sanya City, Arya Ali, First Lady of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, and Michael Houghton, Nobel Laureate in Physiology or Medicine, and ambassadors from Kyrgyzstan, Zambia, Maldives, Switzerland, Nepal, Guyana, Uganda, Mozambique, and various other countries.
2023 marks the tenth anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative. The forum focused on women's education, health, and growth, upholding the spirit of the Silk Road, and promoting inter-civilizational exchanges. It vigorously publicized China's achievements in advancing women's causes and promoting their comprehensive development in the new era. This forum significantly enhanced China's international discourse and influence in the fields of women and children, building a platform and bridge for women's exchange and communication among Belt and Road participating countries.
