Ladies, gentlemen, and friends, good afternoon!

I am delighted to be here at this forum. Having heard about the outstanding achievements shared by many distinguished women in politics, economics, and culture, we are reminded that life is beautiful, and each of us needs to return to our daily lives and routines.

This forum calls for the promotion of gender equality and universal health, and the building of a family-friendly society. Therefore, I’ll discuss how the Jiangsu Province Women’s Federation mobilizes mothers to engage fathers in family education and how we involve grassroots working fathers in this effort. Let me introduce you to five family members of Jiangsu Province Women’s Federation. The family, represented by the jasmine flower, includes the father as the bud, the mother as the blooming flower, the younger sister and an older sister as buds, and Little Hao, whose gender is not determined, represented by a young sprout. Since becoming the image spokesperson for family education in Jiangsu Province, this family has been very busy. You can see their presence in our online courses called ‘Three Courses’, where they appear in the introduction and conclusion of each course. They teach about child development, informing parents about the principles of child growth and how to understand children better to educate them effectively.

The women's roles in ‘The Second Path’ inform parents about their responsibilities in family education. There’s also a path for grandparents’ support, which is unique to our country, where grandparents play a significant role in raising their grandchildren. We educate grandparents on how to contribute effectively to family education. These characters are busy and appear in various settings, including our online Parent School in Jiangsu Province, which offers guidance to families, schools, research institutions, and communities.

In our daily lives, a significant event last year was the official implementation of the Law of the People’s Republic of China on the Promotion of Family Education on January 1, 2022. This law emphasizes that family education is not just a family matter but has risen to a national level. The Jiangsu Family Education Promotion Regulations, our local legislation, came into force on June 1, 2019. Our regulations were the fifth provincial legislation in the country. Both the national law and the Jiangsu regulations clearly state that parents are the primary educators in the family.

Parents and guardians are advised to subtly guide and influence children through their daily actions and words. However, due to longstanding traditions and customs in our country, fathers are often absent in family education. A complete family education requires the active, brave, and effective participation of both fathers and mothers. This will result in healthier and better family education, and children will be more confident, brave, and secure. Hence, we encourage fathers to take up their responsibility bravely and actively in family education.

I’ll share three stories about fathers - a reading father, a sports father, and a laboring father. We recognize the father who reads and explores the world with his child, turning their questions into joint explorations and even writing books, especially on festivals and solar terms. This reading father also inspires other parents to participate in community reading activities. The sports father effectively implements his child’s weight loss plan, inspiring more fathers to join sports activities with their children. The laboring father, a chef, teaches his daughter various skills and recipes, creating a model for other fathers in the community to participate in family activities.

Our approach in Jiangsu, sustainable family education integrated into daily life, has been included in the Blue Book of Children of Annual Report on Chinese Children’s Development 2022. The jasmine flower family, representing the beauty of everyday life and education, encourages more fathers to participate in family affairs and education, demonstrating gender equality in action, contributing to a happier and more beautiful family life. Thank you, everyone!

The theme of the forum, ‘She Power: Jointly Building and Sharing a Beautiful Life,’ reflects a focus on women’s unique contributions and empowerment within the context of the Belt and Road Initiative. Organized by the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, and the All-China Youth Federation, along with the People’s Government of Sanya City leadership, the forum brought together over 400 participants. These included the First Lady of Guyana, representatives from the United Nations, Nobel laureates in Physiology or Medicine, and ambassadors from Kyrgyzstan, Zambia, Maldives, Switzerland, Nepal, Guyana, Uganda, Mozambique, and various other countries, along with national and international business representatives.

During the forum, in-depth discussions and exchanges took place around the theme. Guests shared insights on the distinctive role played by women in the ten years since the Belt and Road Initiative was launched. They highlighted the substantial achievements of women and looked forward to the future of the initiative, advocating for women’s empowerment to foster common development and prosperity in human society.

2023 marks the tenth anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative. Over the past decade, the Belt and Road Women’s Forum has been instrumental in showcasing the unique role of women in the development of the Belt and Road Initiative, promoting comprehensive and sustainable development for women, and enhancing people-to-people connections among the participating countries. The forum has successfully established a platform for communication and collaboration among women across the Belt and Road countries, building bridges for mutual understanding and cooperation.
