The 5th Belt and Road Women’s Forum successfully convened in Sanya, Hainan from December 6-8. Co-hosted by the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, and the UN Resident Coordinator Office in China, and jointly organized by the People’s Government of Sanya City, the China Friendship Foundation for Peace and Development, and the Secretariat of the Belt and Road Women’s Forum. Throughout a millennium, the ancient Silk Road was not only a trade route but also a vital link integrating Eastern and Western civilizations and tightly connecting Asia, Africa, and Europe with the world. Over 600 years ago, Zheng He pioneered the Maritime Silk Road. Numerous ancient texts record that during his seven voyages to the Western Seas, traditional Chinese medicine, as a treasure of Chinese culture, positively impacted the health of residents in the regions he visited. It also laid a solid foundation for peaceful and friendly economic and cultural exchanges between China and Western countries.
In 2013, the Belt and Road Initiative was proposed, reviving the bustling scenes of visits and trade over land prosperity of the ancient Silk Road and imbuing this historical achievement of human civilization with a new spirit and humanistic significance. Traditional Chinese medicine continues to play a vital role in health and cultural exchanges between China and countries along the Belt and Road.
Promoting Shared Connectivity in Exploring Women’s Health:
Women’s contributions are irreplaceable in promoting people-to-people connectivity, cultural exchanges, and economic cooperation in the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative. Traditional Chinese medicine, with its philosophy of ‘preventing illness before it arises and nourishing well before aging,’ provides fundamental support for women’s health, offering a suitable ‘Chinese solution’ for building a community with a shared future for mankind.
Dong-E-E-Jiao, is a time-honored Chinese medicine enterprise under China Resources (Holdings) Co.,Ltd. and a leader in the Chinese tonic medicine industry has upheld the mission of ‘extending life and benefiting the world’ for seventy-one years. It has been dedicated to passing on the culture of traditional Chinese medicine and E-jiao to the world. According to the ancient text ‘Annotations on the Waterway,’ E-Jiao was a tonic tribute to the imperial court throughout history, providing invaluable strength for women’s nourishment and health. The passed down since the Tang and Song dynasties is especially precious for its irreplaceable value.

Participating in this grand event with ‘Nine Imperial E jiao’ represents not only the company’s commitment to the Silk Road spirit but also brings tangible benefits to the health of women worldwide, enhancing connections between Chinese and foreign women.
Moreover, Dong-E-E-Jiao recognizes that cultural exchange is an essential bridge for connecting hearts and minds. The ‘14th Five-Year Plan for the Development of Traditional Chinese Medicine’ and the report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China both propose to ‘promote the inheritance and innovative development of traditional Chinese medicine.’ For the traditional Chinese medicine industry, innovation means looking into the future from the shoulders of giants. Over the past seventy-one years, Dong-E-E-Jiao has always adhered to the philosophy of ‘learning from the past without being stuck in it, breaking the rule without deviating from it.’ Using modern technology to explore the value of traditional Chinese medicine, it seeks optimal solutions to aid women’s health development in classical prescriptions, providing distinctive health services to more women in need and continuously promoting high-quality innovation in traditional Chinese medicine.
As a member of the friendly development group of the Belt and Road Initiative countries, Dong-E-E-Jiao will also help deepen health cooperation and exchanges between China and Belt and Road countries. By pooling efforts from all sides, we jointly explore effective paths to sustainably safeguard women’s health development worldwide, disseminating the essence of traditional Chinese medicine culture, enhancing its international influence and development level, and writing a new chapter of innovative cooperation in traditional Chinese medicine culture.
Over the past decade since the Belt and Road Initiative was proposed, fruitful achievements have been made. Standing at a new historical starting point, Dong-E-E-Jiao will continue to adhere to proper innovation, combining adherence to principles, heritage, and forward-looking scientific innovation. We will further benefit more overseas women with traditional Chinese medicine culture. At the same time, we actively join hands with all parties to deepen interconnectedness and pragmatic cooperation, promoting the Belt and Road traditional Chinese medicine culture exchange and development into a new stage. The theme of the forum, ‘She Power: Jointly Building and Sharing a Beautiful Life,’ reflects a focus on women’s unique contributions and empowerment within the context of the Belt and Road Initiative. Organized by the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, and the All-China Youth Federation, along with the People’s Government of Sanya City leadership, the forum brought together over 400 participants. These included the First Lady of Guyana, representatives from the United Nations, Nobel laureates in Physiology or Medicine, and ambassadors from Kyrgyzstan, Zambia, Maldives, Switzerland, Nepal, Guyana, Uganda, Mozambique, and various other countries, along with national and international business representatives.
During the forum, in-depth discussions and exchanges took place around the theme. Guests shared insights on the distinctive role played by women in the ten years since the Belt and Road Initiative was launched.
